Abstract
The paper examines the concept of the memex, a use of the computer as a hypertext learning and teaching tool, pioneered by Vannevar Bush in 1945. It discusses the practical implementation of this concept in the authors own teaching, using the World Wide Web. The disadvantages of the UK context and the drawbacks of a more conventional view of computer aided learning are listed.
